Bio

Originally from South Carolina, I got my first camera when I was 17 and always had a dream of making a living through photography.  After a couple lackluster years at the College of Charleston I dropped out and temporarily gave up that dream to live out of a backpack and hitchhike across the United States.  Eventually that path led me to Hawaii, where I came with my partner, now husband, expecting to stay for a few months at most.  That was in 2014.

Needless to say we fell in love with the Island and decided to make it our home.

In May 2018, when I was 34 weeks pregnant, Kilauea erupted in our neighborhood.  We evacuated our home and, like many Puna residents, lost nearly all of our belongings to the devastating lava flow.  We flew to SC where we found a new midwife last minute.  We had our daughter in the comfort of our own home, and one of the assistant midwives happened to also be a birth photographer. She gifted us an entire gallery of priceless images...photos I never would have had had our Hawaii birth plan been uninterrupted.  This was a pivotal event for me.  For years I had been passionate about birth and obsessed with birth photography, it was something I was always interested in, but once I had my own baby, my own gallery of images to treasure, that's when I knew my dream from my teenage years was still alive.

We moved back to the Island when our daughter was 3 months old and have no plans of ever leaving paradise again.

Since then, I haven't wanted to do anything but photography.  And so here I am, ready to take you out on an adventure and co-create with you, ready to capture your sacred vows, or to sit silently and witness you bring your baby earth-side.

But I'm not just a photographer.

I'm a bedroom musician devoted to my guitar, while also dabbling in piano and production.

I'm an over the top home cook specializing in making healthy food taste good.

A lifelong journal keeper.

A fantasy novel nerd.

A knitter.

A yogi.

I'm a person of passion.

I've got so many hobbies to keep me busy, I don't like to be caught in a dull moment.

So, you can be sure that a session with me will be anything but dull.  I like to have fun; let's have some together.

"I had my first photoshoot with Susanna and didn't know what to expect. I immediately felt like she was my friend and I was able to open up and get beautiful photos that I will cherish forever. She made me feel powerful and beautiful. She was so encouraging, comforting, and has a great sense of humor. Epic experience! Thank you so much! I would refer anyone I know visiting the Big Island to Susanna for photos. You will get top quality images and a fun adventure too!"
